Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Scholarship (FLTA)
Foreign Language Teaching Assistantship (FLTA) Program is a nine-month scholarship program for individuals who have graduated from English Language Teaching and similar fields at the beginning of their careers (without more than 7 years of teaching experience). Please click for the list of other related fields.

In addition to improving the quality of foreign language education at universities in the USA, the FLTA Program aims to help English teachers from foreign countries improve their teaching skills, improve their English language levels, and have knowledge about American society and culture.

Foreign Language Teaching Assistants will work as teaching assistants in Turkish language education programs at American universities. Teaching assistantship includes up to 20 hours of work per week. In addition, there is an obligation to take two courses per semester in the fields of English Language Teaching and/or American Cultural Studies in the institutions where the assistantship is provided. It is possible to attend the classes as an audience (“audit”), or to take credits. No diploma will be received at the end of this program.

Foreign Language Teaching Assistants are expected to participate in Turkish Speaking Club arrangements, extracurricular activities and social aid projects, in addition to their teaching duties.

Foreign Language Teaching Assistants will receive a monthly scholarship. In addition, health insurance is made against accident and illness, and round-trip flight tickets are purchased. The American universities hosting the program provide tuition fee exemption and support the assistants for the courses that must be taken.

Foreign Language Teaching Assistants must attend an orientation program to be held in the USA before going to the universities where they will work in August 2023. Scholars also participate in the mid-term evaluation meeting organized by the Education and Cultural Relations Office of the US Department of State and share their best foreign language teaching practices and personal teaching experiences with other scholars.

Scholars who will participate in this program cannot take their spouse and/or children with them. Scholars are obliged to return to Turkey at the end of the program.
